KMX Technologies, Inc. announces the execution of a Letter of Intent (“LOI”) with TETRA Technologies, Inc. (“TETRA” or the “Company”) (NYSE:TTI) for the design and delivery of three vacuum membrane distillation pilot units, including an additional lab unit, for TETRA’s Oasis TDS produced water desalination solution, TETRA Oasis TDS.
The additional systems are intended to significantly expand TETRA’s pilot capabilities amidst growing interest in desalination solutions for oil and gas produced water. The systems are expected to be delivered in 2025 and 2026.
TETRA recently introduced TETRA Oasis TDS following a successful commercial pilot project for the desalination of Delaware Basin produced water for a major North America oil and gas operator. TETRA Oasis TDS is an end-to-end water treatment and desalination technology for beneficial re-use and mineral extraction applications for oil and gas well produced water. The desalinated water was tested against published Texas Railroad Commission (“TRRC”) standards for beneficial re-use water at both TETRA’s laboratory and an independent third-party laboratory. Subsequently, the treated water was sent to a third party for Whole Effluent Toxicity (“WET”) testing where it successfully passed all test parameters. WET testing is a method used to measure the combined toxic effects of all pollutants on aquatic organisms and involves exposing aquatic organisms to treated wastewater samples and observing how the organisms respond.
TETRA Oasis TDS’s solution is intended to address the industry’s focus on the increasing volumes of produced water that is being disposed into saltwater disposal wells. Demand for TETRA Oasis TDS is driven by several factors including reducing produced water disposal volumes which have been linked to seismicity events and increasing industrial demand for large volumes of clean water for commercial applications, such as data centers. TETRA Oasis TDS includes proprietary pre-treatment technology followed by the desalination stage, including KMX’s Vacuum Membrane Distillation, licensed exclusively to TETRA for oil and gas produced water applications.
Industry studies have indicated that the handling and treating of produced water is a $4 billion annual market opportunity in the Permian Basin, making this one of the fastest growing market opportunities in the oil and gas industry.
Brady Murphy, TETRA’s President and Chief Executive Officer will deliver the keynote address this morning at the 35th Annual Produced Water Society Conference in Houston, TX, highlighting the growing demand for beneficial reuse solutions.
