AUSTIN, Texas March 01, 2021 — KMX Technologies, LLC (“KMX”), a market leader in membrane distillation, announced today that it has expanded its intellectual property (IP) portfolio through the addition of a proprietary critical mineral extraction process, including for Rare Earth Elements (REE) and lithium, utilizing its patented hollow fiber membrane distillation process.

The IP addition broadens the company’s commercially ready separation solutions and gives the extractive industries and its commercial channel partners unique energy transition and remediation solutions.

The processes are built on KMX’s successful commercial and pilot work relating to separating waste-streams as well as lithium extraction in the U.S. and Canada, respectively. The additional critical mineral extraction IP includes KMX’s proprietary zero-liquid discharge treatment process which separates REE from liquid phases independent of initial feed REE salt concentration.

The process utilizes KMX’s patented process and IP across active tailing ponds, in acid-mine drainage of terminated mines, in coal leachates, and following the leaching processes during remediation.

Following the IP addition, the company is exploring licensing, pilot, and commercial deployment opportunities.
