KMX Technologies, Inc. has been awarded $543,543 from the Wyoming Energy Authority for the installation of a KMX Vacuum Membrane Distillation (VMD) system at Ur-Energy’s Lost Creek Uranium Mine and processing plant in Wyoming.

The use of KMX’s VMD technology at Ur-Energy’s Lost Creek Uranium Mine presents an opportunity to maximize wastewater recovery and alleviate a critical uranium processing potential bottleneck for the uranium recovery industry.  The award comes at a time of growing demand for uranium production and increasing interest in nuclear energy.

Zachary Sadow, CEO of KMX Technologies, said, “Through this important partnership, the KMX team is proud to support American uranium and nuclear security while enhancing Wyoming’s economic development”.

He added, “The KMX team thanks Governor Gordon, the Wyoming Energy Authority, and Ur-Energy for the opportunity to bring our technology to the State of Wyoming”.

John Cash, CEO and Chairman of the Board for Ur-Energy Inc., stated, “We are pleased that the WEA has agreed to provide their support to further enhance wastewater management technology at our Lost Creek Mine through the installation of KMX Technologies’ vacuum membrane distillation.  We look forward to working with the WEA and KMX in demonstrating this technology in the in-situ uranium industry in Wyoming”.

Ur-Energy is well positioned to participate in the growth in uranium demand with a plan to develop 12 uranium mine units in Wyoming’s Lost Creek and Shirley Basin areas.

Currently, in-situ uranium mining creates a wastewater stream that is disposed of in deep injection wells. These injection wells can be prone to geological pressure challenges, creating potential bottleneck disruptions and costly drilling and reconstruction risks.

The disposal of wastewater into deep injection wells limits the opportunity to recycle valuable water back into the mining process, saving operating expenses and enhancing local water security.  By utilizing KMX’s VMD technology, Wyoming’s uranium recovery industry has the opportunity to maximize water recovery and minimize injection well-related risks.
